Lecture: Equine Learning Theory: The Effective Use of Learning Theory within Management and Training.

This course has been certified by the CPD Standard's Office, you will therefore be able to get international recognition for your participation in this course. It has been created and will be delivered by a tutor that has obtained a Master's degree (UK - level 7) in Equine Behavior and Training - ensuring you of the quality of the course content, and its delivery.

During this in-depth course, we will be considering two main areas: equine cognition (their learning processes), and their behavior; one of the primary aims of this lecture will then be to understand how these two areas should be considered and incorporated as part of your own training and management approach.

This course places a high emphasis on the welfare and well-being of the equidaes. Whilst keeping this in mind, we will be considering the optimal training approaches and some of the lesser-known facts that were discovered in scientific studies that can be applied to enhance your performance and relationship with your horse.

Training and retraining can lead the students of this course to meet some common challenges - these will be considered and discussed in this session (including motor and oral stereotypies, behavioral issues in the ridden horse, learned helplessness, and fear-based reactions...). We will also be discussing the equine learning theory, and all of the current approaches to training.

This course can be delivered to groups of small to medium-sized (from 2 to 14 individuals).

Lecture length: 12 hours (deliverable over one full day (9 am to 6 pm) + the following morning/or afternoon).

As part of our approach to teaching each student will have access to a free 25 minutes online consultation with the tutor that delivered the lecture, at their chosen date.

Cost: 445 Euro per person - negotiable for groups

McTimoney accredited massage, stretching, and manipulation (including 3 certified massage techniques). During this session, we are focusing on multiple parts of the active musculoskeletal system (primarily muscles, connective tissue, and fascia). This approach is especially recommended for actively working horses, those dealing with sore muscles and physical stress due to various tensions on their anatomy. The McTimoney massage techniques are very gentle and it is therefore also recommended for older horses, or horses having recently returned to work after an injury or some time off. This fixed-price service takes 1 hour to 90 minutes.

Alberta - Calgary area (160 miles radius covered)

From the 10th to the 18th of July 2024

Services offered:

Lecture: Introduction to the equine anatomy, palpation, stretching, and massage techniques.

This course will consider some of the general causes of tension and stress in the working horse, especially under the saddle and during groundwork. This course will also consider some of the stress and tension that can be inflicted due to management practices and how to resolve and identify these (observations and palpations).

To ensure that the attendee can then be aware and prevent any future issues, we will be discussing the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system (passive and active, including fascia), and the role of the nervous system.

Finally, we will be going over some stretching and massaging techniques that the attendee will be able to take away and practice confidently on their horses.

As this lecture calls for practice to make sure that the learning is embedded, and that each attendee feels confident in practicing what they have learned later on, our expert will be traveling to your yard/ranch; the number of horses needed will vary according to the number of booked participants.

To ensure that each attendee gains as much knowledge and supervised practice as possible, it is recommended that the lecture is limited to 8 participants.

Minimum/maximum participants: 1-8.

Lecture length: 4.5 hours.

Cost: 350 Canadian Dollars per individual - negotiable for groups.
