A Message from Kim
Portsmouth University
Kim's Equine School was created after I realized that there is quite a significant gap between what we, as equestrians, are taught at our riding schools, and what is being taught at further University level in regards to horses, their needs, their learning process, and how to apply this to training.
To resolve this issue, we have and are still furthering our equine knowledge, to be able to give our students the key messages from the most recent research at an international level. We are also broadening our own horizons and knowledge to other disciplines - thereby ensuring our students that they are profiting from effective approaches in other disciplines, management styles, and more.
Our approach to teaching:
Our courses aim to provide engaging and challenging content that the average equestrian might have not come across before. Our courses are evidence-based, we utilize the current research within the equestrian training and behavior industry, and we aim to bridge the gap between the scientific findings in equine behavior and their application to day-to-day management and training. This acts as a great start and a strong basis for the study of equitation science, and the equine cognitive process.
Some of the more general aims of our courses are to help the students in developing their knowledge and understanding of equine behaviors and to broaden their theoretical knowledge of the multiple approaches to equine training and how to apply them correctly.
Our courses also provide the students with tools (clinical and non-clinical) to assess equine behaviors and understand signs of pain (physical and mental), depressive states, or confusion within the training
Who Are We?
Kim's Equine School has been created in 2022. We provide online courses that are aimed at both professionals and non-professionals in the equine industry (this can include horse owners, yard managers, jockeys…). The primary aim of the courses is to bring more awareness on equine behavior as part of the training and management systems.
Non-clinical signs and equine communication are only very briefly covered in most training syllabus, however, equine behavior issues are very prominent in today's equine population - these could often be resolved with accessible changes in the management/training routine, if only the owner or manager knew how to interpret equine behavior – this is why our courses aim to break this communication down in easy to understand, and evidence-based chapters.
Unlike other providers, our course packages offer a level of client-focus that is unbeatable; 25 minutes of free video-call with an equine specialist if always part of these packages. This helps to ensure that you can truly start to apply the knowledge acquired in our courses, and if you encounter any issues we are here to help so that any blockages can be swiftly resolved and worked through together.
Why was this school created?
As you have probably looked online for a course on equine training or management, you might have also found that there are a lot of providers out there, there are big variations in prices, and you are not always sure on what you are getting, and if the information you are getting can be trusted... Are the courses reviewed, are they created by professionals that have acquired both practical and theoretical knowledge in the equine sciences, is the content relevant to you in your daily practice? This is exactly why this school was created! We tick all of the criteria above.
Courses offered on our website here have been created by accredited Master level experts. Having acquired theoretical learning at University level, and having previously worked in practice, our shool aims to provide you with courses of a high level of expertise on the specific subjects that interest you in particular; therefore giving you access to valuable knowledge at a minimum price.
